A hot air balloon ride has got to be on everybody’s bucket list and it took 53 years before it happened for me – actually a little longer because lousy weather cancelled the flight booked by Suzzanne on my birthday, so we slotted it into a busy February a few months later.
We got lucky with a great morning for the flight from Ipswich and toward Scenic Rim mountains, complete with a spectacular fiery sunrise.
Rather than rambling on with superlatives to describe the morning I’ll let our pictures do the talking…
After a great flight we surprised a farmer by landing unannounced in her back paddock, causing our pilot to get an embarrassing bollocking. With everybody pitching in the balloon was bundled up and loaded for the ride back into town.
We took our flight with Floating Images out of Ipswich, it was really interactive with passengers asked to help with launching and packing away the balloon, which adds to the experience. The flight ends with a café breakfast where we got to share our perspective of the flight with fellow passengers.
